How to Find Your Hosting Account Information

How to Find Your Hosting Account Information

Overview

When you manage a website, you may occasionally need information about your hosting account.

This can include things such as:

  • Your hosting domain

  • Your hosting service

  • Your cPanel login information

  • Your server information

  • Your nameservers

  • Your account or service status

  • Information needed when setting up email, FTP, or other services

Most of the information you need can be found through your Have Freedom Hosting Customer Portal or your hosting account's cPanel.

This guide explains where to look for the information you are most likely to need.

Your Customer Portal

Your Have Freedom Hosting Customer Portal is the primary place to manage your customer account and hosting services.

From the Customer Portal, you can generally find information related to:

  • Your hosting services

  • Domains associated with your account

  • Invoices and billing

  • Support tickets

  • Account information

  • Service status

If you're not sure where to start, the Customer Portal is usually the best place to look.

Your Hosting Service Information

Your hosting service will have information associated with the hosting account you purchased.

Depending on your hosting package and account, this may include:

  • The domain associated with the service

  • Your hosting package

  • Service status

  • Hosting server information

  • Account creation information

  • Renewal information

You can find your active hosting services through the Services area of the Customer Portal.

Select the hosting service you want to manage to view the information available for that service.

Your cPanel Information

Your hosting account's cPanel provides access to the tools you use to manage your website.

Depending on how your account was set up, you may access cPanel through the Customer Portal or directly through your hosting server.

Once inside cPanel, you can manage things such as:

  • Website files

  • Email accounts

  • Databases

  • Domains and subdomains

  • DNS settings

  • SSL certificates

  • Software and applications

  • Backups and other hosting tools

If you need information specific to your website or hosting environment, cPanel is often the best place to look.

Finding Your Nameservers

If you're connecting a domain to your Have Freedom Hosting account, you may need your account's nameservers.

Nameservers tell your domain registrar where your domain's DNS is managed.

Your correct nameservers should come from your hosting account or the information provided by Have Freedom Hosting.

Don't guess your nameservers. If you're unsure which nameservers to use, check your hosting service information or contact support.

For more information about connecting your domain, see our guide on connecting your domain to Have Freedom Hosting.

Finding Your Server Information

Some website applications, developers, or support requests may require information about the server hosting your account.

Depending on your hosting setup, relevant information may include:

  • Server hostname

  • Server IP address

  • Shared IP address

  • Account username

  • Nameservers

You may find some of this information in cPanel or your hosting service information.

If you are working with a developer or another service that asks for server information, make sure you understand exactly what information they need before providing it.

Finding Your Email Settings

If you're setting up an email account in Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, a phone, or another email application, you'll need your email account's connection settings.

The easiest place to find the exact settings for your account is generally through cPanel's email management tools.

Look for Email Accounts, select the email address you want to configure, and look for an option such as Connect Devices or the available mail client configuration information.

This can provide the appropriate incoming and outgoing mail settings for your account.

Finding Your Website Files

Your website files are normally managed through cPanel's File Manager or through FTP.

For most standard hosting accounts, the primary website files are located in:

public_html

This is commonly the directory that contains the files visitors see when they visit your main domain.

For example:

public_html/
├── index.html
├── images/
├── css/
└── other website files

If you're using WordPress or another application, the structure may look different.

You generally don't need to modify files unless you're uploading or managing a website manually.

Finding Your Account Username

Your hosting account may have a username associated with it.

This can be used for certain hosting services and tools, including FTP or other account-specific functions.

Your hosting username is not necessarily the same thing as your Customer Portal email address.

If a setup guide or application asks for your hosting username, use the username associated with the hosting account rather than guessing.

Customer Portal Information vs. cPanel Information

It's helpful to understand the difference between the two.

Customer Portal

Your Customer Portal is primarily for managing your relationship with Have Freedom Hosting.

You use it for things such as:

  • Managing your hosting services

  • Viewing invoices

  • Managing your account

  • Opening support tickets

  • Managing other customer-related information

cPanel

cPanel is primarily for managing the technical side of your hosting account.

You use it for things such as:

  • Website files

  • Email

  • Databases

  • Domains

  • DNS

  • SSL

  • Applications

A simple way to remember it is:

Customer Portal = Your hosting account

cPanel = Your website and hosting tools

Don't Share Your Passwords

You may occasionally be asked for hosting information when setting up software, working with a developer, or contacting support.

Never share:

  • Your Customer Portal password

  • Your cPanel password

  • Your email password

  • Your FTP password

  • Your domain registrar password

  • Other sensitive account credentials

Have Freedom Hosting Support will never need your password simply to troubleshoot a normal hosting issue.

If someone needs access to your website, use the appropriate account or user-management features instead of giving them your personal password whenever possible.

Can't Find the Information You Need?

That's okay.

Hosting terminology can be confusing, especially when you're getting started.

If you're not sure where to find something, contact Have Freedom Hosting Support and let us know what you're trying to accomplish.

For example:

"I'm trying to connect my domain and need to know which nameservers to use."

or:

"I'm setting up my email in Outlook and need the correct mail server settings."

The more specific you can be about what you're trying to do, the easier it is for us to point you in the right direction.
